Childcare Costs Burden Families and Affect the Future of our Children

Childcare

The cost of childcare for low-income families who have longer work hours, and are more likely to have single parent or two working parent families is prohibitive.  The average estimated childcare costs in Atlanta’s suburbs of $17,236/year or 2 children in a childcare center or $1427/month and $308/week is almost half of the $620 that a two minimum wage working family would earn for childcare alone.  It is well known that quality, safe childcare is critical to the strong foundation of a child.  Strategies are critically needed for families to access quality, affordable childcare.
